About half an hour train ride south west out of Berlin centre is the beautiful location of Potsdam. There is a treasure of historical buildings and palaces to see here amidst large garden spaces and community squares. We had specifically set aside a day to make this excursion as it is often recommended for any Berlin trip. We hired bikes for the day and took in as much as we could manage in the 35 degree heat and by the end we were both convinced it was worth it.
